Writing and editing the site was a lot of fun for the whole MEKAS., and we greatly appreciated your readership over the last year.

『パーソナルスタイリスト』森井良行氏の仕事に密着！

MEKAS.のインタビューに応じてくれた森井氏（これからアップします）。その話に興味を抱き、パーソナルスタイリストの仕事に同行させてもらった。

「結婚披露宴に出席する為のファッションを低予算で揃えたい」。大学3年生の爽やかな青年Mさんが、今回のクライアントだ。

この日向かったのは、渋谷駅から徒歩1分の『THE SUIT COMPANY』。ガッチリとした体型に合うサイズのスーツ11点が、あっという間に試着室の前に並んだ。次々に試着するMさんを森井氏が細かくチェック！こだわりは美しいシルエットだ。

「同じサイズ表記でも、生地によって微妙にサイズが違いますから、とにかく沢山試着することが一番大切です。そしてお直しする事を前提に、細かなチェックをしていきます」。そう話しながら、5ミリ単位でジャケットの着幅・丈、パンツのウエスト・太もも・裾を直すように提案していた。鏡の前で約1.5時間。ようやくベストなスーツが決まり、それに合うシャツとネクタイもチョイス。予算内で、フォーマルにもカジュアルにも合う革靴まで揃った。

「森井さんとの買い物は楽しいだけでなく、とても安く買い物ができます。何を買っていいか分からないから、一人での買い物はとても高額になってしまうんです。しかも、レクチャーまで聞けて！本当にためになります」。満足気にMさんが話してくれた。学生の平日利用は1.5時間で8,000円！？この安さと、森井氏の人柄、親切丁寧な仕事ぶりが、ファッションを苦手とする若者の救世主だと感じた一日だった。

We recently interviewed personal stylist Yoshiyuki Morii for an upcoming MEKAS. piece, but we wanted to see what it’s like to go out and shop with the famed professional shopper. Our intrepid Junko Kai went out to Shibuya to follow around Morii and his client.

“I want to buy a suit for a wedding banquet at a low price,” says today’s client — university junior Mr. M.

So we all headed towards The Suit Company, one minute from Shibuya station. There were 11 suits that perfectly fit Mr. M’s body, and in a flash, he was lining up for the dressing room with them in hand. Morii checked each of the suits on Mr. M extremely carefully. He was very concerned with the silhouette.

“Even if all the tags say the same size, there are subtle differences stemming from the different fabrics. The most important thing is to try a lot of suits on. We should check all the small details based on the premise that we are going to do alterations.” As Morii says this, he suggests alterations of just five mm for the jacket’s width and length, the pants’ waist and thighs and cuffs. We spend almost an hour and a half in front of the mirror. They eventually decide on the best suit and pick a shirt and necktie to match. They go with leather shoes within the budget range that are good for both formal and casual.

“Shopping with Morii-san is fun, but it’s not just that. You can get really great bargains. I had no idea what to buy, so I think I would have ended up spending a lot of money. Also, the idea that you get a free lecture in there! It is really useful,” says the very-satisfied Mr. M. Students on weekdays get an hour and a half with Morii for only 8,000 yen. For that low price, I feel like Morii is the savor for young people who do not have much natural fashion sense.

We are always working hard to offer a constant stream of Japanese fashion news and trend analysis on the main MEKAS. site, but lately, we have been itching to add on a blog allowing for more casual pieces about the fashion we encounter in Tokyo on a daily basis. We may report from Tokyo Collection and Japan Fashion Week two times a year, but the main site did not give us an obvious place to discuss all the smaller designer exhibitions attended in-between. We also wanted to do more in the way of bilingual content, especially since the English contents do not obviously reflect the hard work of our Japanese staff.
