Hankyu Men's Sees ¥26.5 Billion in First Year
read on >> Osaka menswear department store Hankyu Men's has reported ¥26.5 billion in net sales for its first year. The final earnings figure was 6% above Hankyu's initial expectation of ¥25 billion.
Hankyu put the number of visiting customers in one year at 8.7 million.
The Hankyu Men's sales figure is a 51% increase over the revenue total of the former menswear space in the Umeda branch of Hankyu.

Tiffany Drops Prices 9% on Average
read on >> American jewelry company Tiffany & Co. has announced an average 9% price decrease on their Japanese product line. The lower prices will go into effect on February 11. This comes after Tiffany dropped prices 6% in November 2008.
The company attributed the pricing adjustment to the strong yen and weak dollar.

Forever 21 to Launch in Harajuku
read on >> Los Angeles-based fast fashion chain Forever 21 has announced a spring opening for its first Japanese store. The location will be the Harajuku youth fashion neighborhood, down the street from H&M in the former New Balance shop.

Ermenegildo Zegna Opens Flagship in Shinjuku
read on >> On January 30, Italian men's brand Ermenegildo Zegna opened its new five-story luxury tower in Shinjuku. The 700 square-meter shop is the first flagship for the brand in Asia and the largest retail space in Zegna's history.
The new tower is Ermenegildo Zegna's third major retail space in Shinjuku alone, with in-shop stores inside Isetan Shinjuku and Takashimaya Shinjuku.

IPGI to Open Galliano Flagship in Omotesando Hills
read on >> IPGI Inc. — International Property Global Investments — has announced a March 6 opening for the new Galliano flagship store in shopping building Omotesando Hills. The store will open on the first floor of the complex, at a total 86 square-meters.
The company also plans to set up a corner for the brand in department store Isetan's Shinjuku location, on the fourth floor.
IPGI signed an exclusive sales and import contract with Galliano last year. The company plans 6 to 7 retail locations for Galliano within three years.

First Kitson Store for Japan to Go in Shinjuku Lumine 2
read on >> The first Japanese retail location for Kitson — the trendy Los Angeles boutique — will open within shopping building Shinjuku Lumine 2 on March 8.
The in-shop space will be a total 165 square-meters, dedicated mostly to accessories from over 90 different brands.
Kitson Japan plans to open a standalone roadside store by summer, with three-to-five more locations scheduled for the year.

Tomorrowland to Open Dries Van Noten Flagship in Aoyama
read on >> Select shop Tomorrowland has partnered with Belgian designer Dries Van Noten to open a Tokyo flagship for his eponymous brand in Aoyama. The store is scheduled to open on March 20.
The store will be 280 square meters over two floors, with womenswear on the ground floor and menswear upstairs.
Tomorrowland is projecting ¥300 million in sales for the first two collection seasons.

Mango to Open Ten Stores in Three Years
read on >> MNG Japan — the Japanese subsidiary of Spanish fashion chain Mango — has announced plans to open ten stores in Japan within the next three years. The first store will open within the Shin Misato Lala City shopping complex in Saitama during its September 2009 grand opening.
One of the stores is planned to be a standalone flagship in Tokyo, but most will go into shopping centers.

Louis Vuitton Pulls Out of Plan for Ginza Store
read on >> After months of industry gossip, Louis Vuitton Japan finally confirmed on December 16 that the company has pulled out of its original plan to open the world's largest LV store on Harumi-doori in the upscale Tokyo neighborhood of Ginza. LVJ blamed the retail pullback on the slowdown in global luxury sales as well as unresolvable conflicts with the real estate company Hulic.
The new Ginza store would have been 12,000 square-meters over twelve floors and housed a LV-branded restaurant.
LVJ also announced that sales for the brand dropped 7% compared to the previous year for the first nine months of the current fiscal year.
